“Addicted to Stress” Book Giveaway

Click Here for Giveaways & Coupon Codes

Now that Christmas is over and we’re on the brink of a New Year, it’s a good time to reflect on how we’ve handled the holidays.  Moms are so busy to begin with, and no doubt you’re like me with a lot on your plate already.  Did you offer to do more than you had time for?  Did you feel you had to accomplish everything for the perfect holiday?  And now that it’s winding down, are you able to stop or do you just keep on pushing, using that momentum to plunge into another tiring and overloaded year?  If you’re like a lot of women, there’s a good chance you’re gearing yourself up for the latter, more stressful route.  Debbie Mandel’s new book, Addicted to Stress: A Woman’s 7 Step Program to Reclaim Joy and Spontaneity in Life, helps us women take a good look at ourselves and the lives we’ve built.  She explains how women have actually increased their workloads over the generations, and I wholeheartedly agree.  But how do we deal with it all?

These days prescription medications seem to be a big answer, one that can eventually lead to a whole boatload of other issues.  If not meds, then we tend to turn to other “solutions” oftentimes equally unhealthy.  But Debbie Mandel leads readers through a greater understanding of what our stress is and why we use it.  She has healthier solutions, such as taking a good look at ourselves, how we treat our time, our bodies, and our thoughts.  Her approach to stress as an addiction is, I think, dead on.  I have learned a great deal from this book, and I know you will too.

And there’s no better time to take on a less stressful like than starting fresh with a New Year.  I have one copy of Addicted to Stress to give away to one of you!  So enter the giveaway and breathe a sigh of relief because help is on the way…

1.) Leave me a comment telling me why you feel you may be addicted to stress.  What’s your day like?  Do you ever leave time for yourself? (You may enter once a day - following entries don’t require you to answer the question.) Remember, leave an interesting comment.  If I cannot contact the winner, you might be chosen instead based on your comment.

I have so much going on in my life from my work meetings to running my kids around and being a good wife to my husband. I must be addicted to stress because I keep saying yes to everything! I volunteer too much at church and at school so my sleep time at night is my only “me” time. I need to learn how to relax!

I’m a 1st time mommy for a newborn baby girl with a husband that works overnights 6 nights a week. I must be addicted to stress because instead of letting my close family help me out I try to take care of the baby and the house work all on my own, and manage to keep my husband happy. I keep everyone eles happy and put off my ‘me’ time for another day, but it never seems to get here!

My days are always filled with, “Yeah, I’ll do it later.” I seem to work better under pressure, but it’s really putting unnecessary stress on me and in my life. Hopefully, that will change in 2009, as it’s one of my resolutions.

    wow

I have a mom who is just in her 60s but has severe alzheimers/dementia and a dad who recently had a heart attack. None of my siblings have anything to do with them; my hubby and I do it all for them. I have a 17yr old daughter who is having some issues which seems to drain me as I so want her to be happy! I have chronic illnesses and to answer your question, no I don’t take enough time for myself but I would love to learn how to do so!

    Thanks

I don’t usually leave too much time to do the nice little things for myself like I use. Since my son was born and I’ve become a stay at home mom, I try to keep my day as busy as possible. My husband says I like to set myself up for getting stressed out by setting too many chores for the day. Thanks for the chance.

  23. 23
    Kelly:

I feel overwhelmed by the chores and the kids’ needs most of the time, so if I ever get a free moment, I spend it trying to catch up on everything that hasn’t gotten done. I wish I could spend time sewing or reading but I always end up feeling like I’d just feel guilty if I did those things, which is very frustrating. So the last time I used my sewing machine was… well, I can’t remember. :-( I have so many great ideas for projects too! Sigh.

  24. 24
    KATHY S:

I want so much how to learn to be happy again. I lost my only sibling 12 years ago, my Mom in 2002 (after a 2 year illness), and my Dad in 2005 (whom I cared for after Mom passed, then I stayed at his home when he had cancer and cared for him by myself.) My family seems to think I’m a drama queen, but neither my husband nor grown kids have gone through anything like this, and don’t understand my stress. I want so much to wake up each day and look forward to something good. Like the saying goes..”I’ve been down so long, it feels like up to me.”
I really could use this book to help me on my way. Thanks so much.

This book would be a blessing to me and my family. I never really thought of stress as an addiction before, but it’s clear to me that it is one. How else could I explain the how lost I feel during the rare moments of calm in my busy schedule? I find myself looking for things to worry about instead of enjoying the moment. I do so hope I win this! Happy New Year!

    Linda Russell:

I try to do too many things at once and wind up jumping from one task to the next, and back to the 1st or 2nd one because I did not finish them. I then can forget where I left off and feel the pressure to finish all the many things I set out for myself to do. I also tend to feel ‘guilty’ alot when I dont finish everything or do things ‘perfectly, even though I know that perfection is not achievable. I even forget to breathe right at times and have to catch myself, and focus on relaxing for a few minutes. This book would be perfect for me!

I’m an attorney in a busy law firm and stress is literally my middle name. In addition, my husband and I just recently took custody of our 15-year old nephew. Two busy, professional kidless people jumping into parenthood = stress! Thanks for the giveaway!

I am a full-time wife and mommy and work part-time as a neonatal intensive care nurse (wrought with stress). I actually love my job despite the fact that it’s stressful so I guess that makes me slightly addicted. I really do try to make time for myself but it’s often at the end of the day when I want to fall asleep

I know I’m addicted to stress. It follows me everywhere. All my children are grown now and it’s hard to get used to them being of age. I loved caring for them and babying them, now they don’t want that. Bummer.
