Aromatherapy. The first time I heard this word was a few decades ago. I was young and imagined some flowery woman floating around making people smell apple pie in a bottle so they’d reconnect with their childhood and magically be cured of all their ills. Now that I’ve worked with essential oils myself, I know this isn’t really the way it works. And, although I’m not an aromatherapist, I have yet to float around with flowers in my hair whilst working with my collection of essential oils. Whether you know know enough to enjoy tinkering with oils yourself, or are still unsure about what it all means, you’ll find Aromatherapy: A Complete Guide to the Healing Art by Kathi Keville and Mindy Green to be a very intriguing read.
Aromatherapy gives more than just a brief history and a smattering of aromatic uses. They have built a fun-to-use manual loaded with information on everything from aromatherapy’s history and how the sense of smell works to essential oil use for health, blending your own perfumes, even chemistry! I loved learning all the how-to’s for blending different oils and using them therapeutically. And the history of perfume formulas, including an ancient recipe for anointing oil used by Moses? Fascinating!
I don’t distill my own essential oils, but someday I’d love to do so, especially if I can use some of the herbs I grow and wildcraft. Aromatherapy includes a section on extracting essential oils, and even provides the info on how to make a homemade essential oil still. This can be a rather complicated process, but it’s nice to get an overview of the different methods, perhaps try a little on your own, and decide whether or not you really want to delve into the craft even more.
This fantastic book is great for perusing, or if you want to get more serious, reading straight through. I found the information to be helpful, insightful, and downright fun to learn. The publishers of Aromatherapy: A Complete Guide to the Healing Art, Crossing Press, are kindly giving away one copy of this fascinating book to one of you! ($19.95 retail, 3.57 on Amazon

SCENT IS ONE OF OUR STRONGEST MEMORY TRIGGERS. certain colognes bring out feelings associated with certain people.

isn’t that scent-sational?
I use lavender oil, incense, lotion… anything I can find. It relaxes me & calms me better than anything else. At work when I’m stressed I’ll use lavender hand cream & breathe deeply into my palms until I’m relaxed. My husband has become a lavender convert too. It makes our household so peaceful, we call it our Official Flower. I agree with the above poster regarding the power of scent to trigger memories. Certain scents transport me to different places & times that are almost forgotten until you smell them.
I use aromatherapy in my bath oils to reduce stress and pain, thats about the extent of my use. I would like to know more however; I have a friend who is into aromatherapy and the use of holistic medicine and she swears by it. Thanks for the giveaway!

I had bought a couple of aromatherapy things that you sniff to relax or reduce stress. I don’t know that they really worked, but they did smell nice!
Thanks for the giveaway!
I’ve used a few aromatheraphy items, still learning about them, this book would help educate me alot more. Thank you for the giveaway.
The only experience with aromatherapy I have is that I sometimes sniff a little chocolate to make myself feel better. I’ve never experimented beyond that. (I’m not talking about EATING the chocolate, but simply sniffing at it) It works wonders for my depression, which sometimes runs amazingly high(low?).
I subscribe….
I’ve used this when I was congested and let my kids do some sniffing especially during allergy season. The aromatherapy smells nice and can pick and chose the scents.
I work for hospice and we utilize aroma therapy for our patients. We actuall have our pharmacy make these things and have a kit for homes and skilled nursing facilites. I was admitting a patient one day in an ICU in the hospital and got permission form the hospital to have the kit for the patient there. I would love to learn more about aroma therapy and possibly utilize it in my own health practice…
I know roses remind me of my grandmother, and what we put in babies bath water to calm them before bed. Lemon scent smells clean, peppermint reminds me of Christmas, cinnamon of baking cookies. I would love to learn more and the health benefits of aromatherapy.

All I know is what I’ve read, but some scents seem to calm me.

I have used aromatherapy for years in my home and where I have worked. Lavender is one of my faviorte calmming scents. I am always on the look out for books about aromatherapy to increase my knowledge.
I find that some lavender oil in a spray bottle full of water makes a wonderful anti-anxiety remedy for my furkids! I’ve used it on myself, too!

I love lavender as a calming, relaxing scent, and citrus smells always make me happy….aromatherapy makes “scents” (hardy har!) to me, since our sense of smell is so very strong. Think about how a certain scent can trigger an intense memory from years and years ago…it only seems right that we could alter our moods by smelling certain things!

When my son was admitted in the hospital for surgery on his wrist, the nurse asked me if I was interested in letting my son try some lavender and I said ok and she used cotton balls to apply it to his skin to relax him before his surgery. She also had a relaxing cd I forget the name of it. This was my first time actually getting involved in aroma therapy.

one the the things i found out a while ago, is that there are at least 2 types of essential oils, food grade and that which is not. and the joys of using food grade in cooking (remember less is more)! have you tried surprising your kids with tangerine (3 drops) flavored pancakes? or i don’t have any oranges or peel (someone ate the one you were going to use) to make a stir fry that needs orange flavor?

Nothing calms me and wipes away the negativity like burning patchouli and orange oil in my burner.
I don’t know too much about aromatherapy, just the basics. I love lavender, have always loved it (for many reasons, one being it reminds me of my French heritage) and know that it is a calming scent. I’d love to learn a lot more about aromatherapy! Thanks!
I’m a very happy subscriber. Thanks!
I would love to learn more about aromatherapy, I have only used oregano oil and eucalyptus oil in my kids humidifiers on sick days and what a difference it makes for my little ones. I would love to introduce my family to the benefits of aromatherapy, myself included!

I find that with aromatherapy, certain scents will trigger certain areas of my body. Chamomile makes me relax whereas Sandalwood might give me an energy boost.

For years we’ve spend hundreds of dollars on artificial products to get relief, healing cures and scents instead of looking at what was right there. Last year I discovered the essential oils, I would love to learn more.
i love using scents when i do yoga or meditate
I forgot- I used to have a lemon candle that I’d light whenever I was cleaning my house. This was while I was still married, and before. This was marked ’sunshine and energy’, and it sure worked. I could get the house clean in under an hour-a three bedroom house completely dusted, polished, and vacuumed, with windows cleaned, dishes done, and garbage out!
