Up towards the top of my list of most-sought-after natural products is hairspray.  I have searched high and low for a hairspray that is not only as chemical free as possible, but one that works; oddly a difficult combination!  Beauty Without Cruelty has a Natural Hold Hairspray that meets both of these requirements.  I’ve been using the spray for about a month now, and it holds very well without being sticky.  I have control over styling, simply by altering the amount I use.  A light mist keeps my hair soft and moving, while for styles that require more control, I’ve been able to apply a few more layers of mist to get my hair to defy a little more gravity.

Perhaps most interesting about BWC is who they are.  Founded in England in 1963, this company focuses on keeping their products cruelty free.  In fact, they’re credited with starting the “cruelty free” movement and for raising awareness of animal testing in the beauty industry.  Their products are all vegetarian, free of animal testing, and free of harmful chemicals.

Since the scalp is such a porous part of the body, and since what we put on our skin eventually becomes a part of us, it’s important to keep your beauty products as free of chemicals as possible.  Especially important is avoiding things like parabens and pthalates, which are known carcinogens. BWC Natural Hold Hairspray doesn’t contain either, so they’re a perfect choice for our Breast Cancer Awareness Week.  BWC is giving away one bottle of their Natural Hold Hairspray ($9.95 value) to one dkMommy Spot reader!

  1. Fabulous products! I love the concept and will definitely be looking for their products from now on. I’d love to try this hairspray too. I like that not only is it not tested on animals, but no animal products are in the ingredients.

  2. In 1963, Beauty Without Cruelty was founded in England by the trustees of BWC Charitable Trust, an animal welfare organization. Its goal was to manufacture and distribute natural, color cosmetics that were NOT tested on animals (as was the norm) and did NOT contain any animal ingredients. The driving force behind the project was Katherine Long, a dedicated, life-long animal welfare activist, a cosmetician, and a vegetarian. Together with Noel Gabriel, Katherine developed the first, full line of cruelty-free color cosmetics.
