For many people, chronic back pain is an unfortunate part of everyday life which leads to the need for prescription painkillers. Many of those are highly addictive not to mention loaded with side effects. Believe me, if you have chronic back pain I understand what it’s like. Several years ago a car accident that ended with a tricky little rollover maneuver made the back pain I already had even worse. I’m quite motivated to finding natural cures and safe pain relieving methods for back pain, and I’m always searching and experimenting. Enter Brookstone.
I tried a Brookstone massaging unit years ago, shortly after that nasty car accident. I was in a lot of pain and my husband had seen the chairs at the mall, so he loaded me up in the car and took me to the mall to sit in a chair and “test” it. The salesperson knew exactly what I was up to. Did he shoe me from the store? No. He looked at me sympathetically and brought me a magazine. I sat there for about a half hour with no interruption. I’ll never forget that kindness. (Thanks, whoever you are!)
I wondered how such a unit would work over the longterm; I’ve been testing a Brookstone Shiatsu Massaging Seat Topper for several weeks, and it has far exceeded my expectations. The Seat Topper goes over an existing chair like, say, an office chair. My first impression was that it was much heavier and sturdier than I’d imagined; about 20 pounds with a hard molded plastic back. The construction is such that even with strong rolling Shiatsu mechanisms, it doesn’t create any friction against your chair – only your back.
How does it feel? My back has long been riddled with little knots of tightened muscles. If you were to push on one with your finger, I’d shoot through the roof then beg you to keep pushing on it to work it out. You know how that goes. So the first time I sat on the Seat Topper, I’m sure I made quite a pretty picture. All the face contorting, the yelping, the crying when the unit shut off after its preset 20-minute session. I couldn’t believe the difference. My back felt loose, jelly-like. The next day I was actually sore as if I’d worked out, but the muscles were still looser than I’ve experienced in a long, long time. After several weeks of use, I can honestly say I have less back pain. Is it gone? No, but I feel like I have an excellent way to help control it. Those little knots have melted, and as long as I use it every day, I feel a big difference in my back. Now that I have a Shiatsu Massaging Seat Topper, I can’t remember what I did without one. A happy forgetting for certain!
