A beautiful vegetarian cookbook filled with mouthwatering recipes, Gaia’s Kitchen: Vegetarian Recipes for Family & Community features gourmet style vegetarian recipes ranging from the simple to the sublime. In a variety of difficulty levels, even the more complex won’t give the average cook a problem in preparation. While some recipes require more time and attention (such as a curry or the Ratatouille Lasagna), others are much more simple (like the honey cake – delicious!) Step by step instructions are laid out for easy understanding, and each recipe is written with two lists of ingredient portions: One for family and one for large groups of about 35 – 40 people.
If you’re having guests who aren’t accustomed to vegetarian fare, this would be the cookbook to grab. Your guests may get through the entire meal without even realizing no meat landed on their plates at all!
Gaia’s Kitchen was awarded the Gourmand World Cookbook award for “Best Vegetarian Cookbook 2001”. The book is a compilation of many of the recipes served at a progressive college in England called Schumacher College. Schumacher focuses on “understanding and finding solutions for the most pressing ecological and social concerns of modern life.” This philosophy carries over even to the foods they serve – and the foods they serve are delicious; after trying several of the recipes in this book, my whole family can attest to that!
Chelsea Green Publishing would like to give one dkMommy Spot reader a copy of Gaia’s Kitchen!
