How clever is this? A recycling truck made of all recycled materials! I love Green Toys Inc. For starters they make all their toys out of recycled milk jugs. Their brightly colored and imaginative items are some of the sturdiest of toys I’ve my son has had the pleasure of playing with. Last year we got him the Sand Play Set, and despite having been left outside in various weather conditions, the pail, shovel and rake all still look like new. The colors haven’t faded and there’s no cracking, and all pieces have been able to withstand my son’s love of rock excavation from our tough and clay-laden soil. So when the Recycling Truck arrived, I already knew we’d be in for a real treat.
Which should bring me to my next reason to love Green Toys Inc.: Their packaging. This is a biggie for me. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s excessive packaging and no one tops the toy market. Twisties, tape, boxes, and clam shells enclose most popular toy items. But Green Toys Inc. puts their toys in simple recycled cardboard boxes. You open the box. You remove the toy. You recycle the box. Done.
Of course for my son, playing with the Recycling Truck ($24.99 retail) was the biggest deal of all. There are little slots in the side of the truck for kids to put objects in, things they’d like “recycled”. This is a great lesson toy because you can show them how we recycle plastic, and how the outcome is sometimes something as cool as their truck! The back of the truck dumps and the objects will come sliding out the back door. And since it’s such a sturdy piece, your child will have this long enough to pass on to younger siblings, even his or her own kids!
