If through dkMommy Spot I could convince people to keep a few good herbal reference books in their homes to go to for simple medical advice, I’d be one happy natural blogger.  Considering all we know of the dangers of over the counter meds, it’s good to have a little herbal know-how to lean on to, say, get rid of a headache instead of reaching for the ibuprofen bottle first.  If this sounds like a good idea for you and your family, consider getting a copy of “Herbal Medicine From the Heart of the Earth“.

I’m finding this book quite helpful, thorough, and responsible in its advice and information.  There are some great medicinal tea recipes within, as well as dosage charts and instructions for making things like poultices, preparing capsules, herb oils and more.  Instsructions for how-to’s are often accompanied by helpful photos.  This is a fantastic resource from the Forward to the Appendix, and one I’d wholeheartedly recommend for the family ready to gain some practical herbal knowledge.

Herbal Medicine From the Heart of the Earth” gives the reader a full materia medica, valuable herbal formulas, and basic how-to’s easy enough to understand for the herbal novice.  Author Dr. Sharol Marie Tilgner N.D. is the founder of Wise Woman Herbals and she hosts the NW Herb Fest in Pleasant Hill, Oregon.

  1. I am interested in alternative medicine, because I think medications are over-prescribed so it would be great to have an alternative.

  2. I would love to win this book because I have always had an interest in herbal medicine. Thanks for having the wonderful giveaway.

  3. I would love to win this because as I get older, I find myself much more interested in what I put into my body. I would love to go a non-chemical route.

  4. I believe it’s everyone’s right to use herbal remedies. I do think you should know what you are doing. You wouldn’t take too much chemical medicine and you shouldn’t take too much herbal. A good book will let us know what is too much!

  5. I have a friend who seems so knowledgeable about natural healing. I would love to learn more about it myself so I could avoid excess chemicals in my body.

  6. Hi, I am trying to build my immune system back up after being ill for a few years. Herbal medicine is the way I want to go after using so many prescription drugs with awful side effects and damage. Thanks and blessings, Stefanie Hartman

  7. The festival sounds wonderful. After reading about the first two classes (and the fellowship times), I want to go! But I’d be thrilled to win a copy of the book.
