There’s nothing more powerful a learning tool than personal experience. Corinne Martin, author of Herbal Remedies from the Wild: Finding and Using Medicinal Herbs
What I find most helpful in Herbal Remedies is how it’s organized. The book is sectioned into seasons, helping the novice easily reference which herbs are harvested when. Corinne Martin also shares portions of her herbal journal, special notes she took while harvesting preparing and/or using the herbs. They’re the kind of notes you too may find yourself collecting after a taste of real at-home herbal medicine preparation.
Overall, Herbal Remedies is a most useful manual; easy for the beginner, a good reference tool for the “not-so” novice, and even a great family project. If you’re considering gathering herbs at all this year, I’d recommend you get yourself a copy and start digging into the valuable information within before spring gets underway. A whole new growing season to start gathering? What better forecast is there?
