It’s simple to make your own coffee substitute with chicory. Chicory is caffeine-free and has a multitude of health benefits. If you’re harvesting and roasting your own, check my post on How to Harvest and Use Chicory. Once you have your chicory roasted and ground, it’s very simple!
Use about 1/2 the amount of chicory as you would coffee. (This is usually about 2 - 3 Tbs. per cup desired.) Brew the ground chicory right in your coffee maker. Then you can add milk and sugar or honey; however you usually prepare a good old cup o’ joe.
For chicory milk, combine 1 cup milk with 1 tsp. chicory and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and let it stand for 5 minutes, then strain out the chicory. You can drink this hot or cold, with or without sugar or honey.
