When fashion designer Isobel Davies heard that British sheep farmers were burning and burying their sheeps’ wool rather than selling it due to a high cost of production, she decided to do something about it. Since she’s also a vegetarian, she came up with a plan to rescue herself a flock from slaughter. Currently having rescued over 600 Shetland and Wensleydale sheep, her flock is allowed to live their lives surrounded in the beauty of the Dells of Yorkshire. Sheared wool is sent to a woollen mill in Selkirk which has been in operation for over 100 years.
Not only does Isobel Davies rescue, raise, and shear the sheep, then design and produce her beautiful woollen line, she’s helping to revitalize a part of British culture that had been a main component of their economy since the middle ages, but has dwindled to a nearly nonexistent trade. And when you discover the incredible quality of these knit pieces, you’ll find there’s truly something timeless about her fashion. Take, for instance, the Wensleydale Daisy Scarf pictured here (£69.00 retail). I have one sent directly from Izzy Lane in North Yorkshire. It’s hand knit with the luxurious wool from the Wensleydale sheep. Unbelievably soft and lacy, an accessory like this will go a long way in dressing up a wardrobe. Its classic style and true quality means you’ll not only own the piece for years to come, you’ll be able to wear it no matter what the future of fashion may hold!
I’ll be giving away this glorious Daisy Scarf to one of you (in Natural, as pictured). I couldn’t be happier to share such a wonderful company with you! Please be sure to drop by their site. For a look at what they’re doing, there’s an Izzy Lane video you’ll really enjoy.
