They’ve done it again! This time, Putumayo Kids takes us on a tour of the playgrounds of Europe. This incredibly fun CD is loaded with songs from 15 European countries, taking your kids from Belgium and England to Hungary, Spain, Ireland, and more. We’ve been listening to this CD pretty regularly around our house, and as usual, my son just loves it. What’s more, we do too!
I think the best part of the Putumayo Kids series (outside of the exposure to foreign languages and cultures) is the fact that the entire family will enjoy it. The songs are always upbeat and fun for any age – and I mean any age. If I didn’t have a kid, I’d still listen to it. Gone are the annoying, repetitive tunes, badly sung lyrics, and phrases that wake me in the night wishing I were only stuck with a fast food restaurant jingle bouncing through my head. Perhaps I’m a little hard on those ordinary CD’s, I know. Kids seem to enjoy them anyway, but I love finding music for my son with more to it than that.
We’re a multicultural family, so to me it’s important my son grows up aware that there’s a big, beautiful world out there; that English isn’t the only language, and although I’m very proud of my American heritage, it’s not the only one worth valuing. Putumayo Kids tie the whole world in together, making each culture seem beautiful in its uniqueness, yet not so different you can’t see what bonds us together as human beings. What a wonderful lesson for kids – and adults – to learn!
Want to win a copy of Putumayo Kids’ latest CD, European Playground? We’ve got two copies to give away! ($14.98 retail) Just give a listen to this video of Herbie Treehead of England; you’ll find this song on the European Playground CD. I dare you not to dance. Don’t dance. Don’t do it. Not a toe tap or a smile. You smirked. I just saw you smirk. That’s not allowed either. (Harder than it sounds, believe me!)
