One place many people don’t think of when trying to avoid their exposure to toxic chemicals in the home is their laundry detergent.  What you use to wash your clothes stays on your clothes; this can soak into your skin and become a part of you, so it’s important to make healthy choices in the laundry room as well as the kitchen and the makeup bag.  And as we’re learning this week, avoiding chemicals is a great step towards cancer prevention.  Today’s review has been conducted and written by Jane Marie of Thyme for Herbs.

I’ve been using Selestial Soap to do my laundry for a few weeks now. I have to admit to being a little skeptical because my past experience with “Green” laundry detergents hasn’t been the best. I’m all for taking care of our environment and avoiding chemical use in my home, but I do like clean laundry. So there was my dilemma.

I am happy to say that Selestial Soap lives up to its promises. It’s non-sudsing (which takes a little getting used to), color safe, and uses no phosphates. But at the same time it does a very good job of cleaning while leaving no residue. I am using the Citrus Scented detergent which is a very mild scent extracted from essential oils only, no perfumes. I enjoy the orange and lemon scent, but it is only detected as I pour the detergent into the machine. It quickly disappears during the washing cycle and what remains while drying is that fresh outdoor smell of clean air and sunshine that used to come from my mother’s laundry when she hung clothes on the line.

I think Selestial Soap really got doing the laundry right. They believe in “saving the planet within your budget” and that “It shouldn’t cost more to live green.”  That’s a philosophy I can live by.

Want to win?  Selestial Soap is giving away a case of their liquid laundry detergent!  ($41.75 retail) The winner will receive three 50-oz. bottles of Citrus and three 50-oz. bottles of Unscented all-natural, chemical free detergent.

  1. Wednesdays entry. I really like that there is no perfume. Allergies here! I am a subscriber.

  2. While I like a bit of scent, it’s neat that there is unscented soap. I have a baby on the way, and I may need something gentle!

  3. I learned that Selestial Soap’s formulation using all-natural ingredients is safe for use with septic systems since it does not contain corrosive materials that can drastically change the pH of the system. And that’s a good thing. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  4. I learned that Selestial Soap Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent is a mixture of natural ingredients formulated to effectively remove even the toughest stains in cold, warm or hot water washing.

  5. If I could combine washing my laundry with this soap and drying it in the sunshine, I’d be happy as a clam. :)

  6. The non-sudsing, clean rinsing formulation will not leave a residue on your clothing or in your machine.

  7. I know this is not the most exciting or happy comment, but I am happy that Selestial Soap works so well in SEPTIC systems. I live in an old house with old, cranky plumbing and have had lotsa problems with harsh cleansers in all different aspects of my pipes.

  8. It is nonsudsing and clean rinsing. I like that because I hate it when the clothes still have that soapy feel and strong smell. I would LOVE the unsented because some of my clothes I just don’t want a smell clashing with the colone I have on. I live alone and I am retired so don’t have the problems that some of these Mom with school age kids do. This would work really well for me.

  9. I subscribe and wish that extra entry. Thank you for sponsering such a great, generous giveaway.

  10. I think I am in love! I love Lilac and they have Case Pack Selestial Soap Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent Lilac Scent – 100 oz
$42.99 for saving money. It is hypoallergenic which is great because I have asthma and they use essential oils to give it fragrance! Fantastic!~

  11. I like Selestial Soap Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent Unscented – 100 oz. skyxsky27[at]

  12. I learned this and am so happy to know it: Scented versions always use Natural Essential Oils, never perfumes!

  13. I did not know that my detergent would coat my washer and make it smelly :( I knew that moving to natural products was good for the environment as a whole, but that makes me think about how good it is for my personal environment.

  14. Wow! A natural laundry detergent would be awesome. In fact, I can’t wait to try this fabulous detergent. My son suffers from eczema so I cannot purchase scented detergents. I am sure that my son will welcome the all natural detergent.

  15. Thanks for the giveaway…Unlike most detergent, Selestial soap liquid laundry detergent helps reduce residue build in both your clothing and in your machine; chemicals that irritate skin and cause allergic reactions could be left in the fabrics and / or residue can cause odors in your machine.

  16. Selestial Soap’s non-sudsing formulation rinses cleanly without the residue left behind by conventional detergents that can irritate sensitive skin
