Seventh Generation “Living Home Starter Kit” Giveaway

Find More Giveaways, Coupon Codes & Our Readers’ Giveaways!

One of the most popular giveaways of all time here at dkMommy Spot was a Living Home Starter Kit from Seventh Generation. I’m so happy to be able to offer another one on behalf of the people at Seventh Generation.  This set, retailed at $44.99 is loaded with their most popular products.  Got a health-conscious person on your list this year?  Someone who really likes to get in there and oust the germs, or a new mom looking for safe products?  Or maybe a new home owner who could use a great clean start?  Perhaps you want to win it for yourself.  That’s alright - we won’t tell.  You deserve a present too.  No matter who the lucky winner, they’ll get all these natural full-sized items:

• Ruby Grapefruit & Herb Natural Glass & Surface Cleaner
• Green Mandarin & Leaf Natural All-Purpose Cleaner
• Emerald Cypress & Fir Natural Toilet Bowl Cleaner
• Green Mandarin & Leaf Shower Cleaner
• Emerald Cypress & Fir Tub & Tile Cleaner
• Wild Orange & Cedar Spice Kitchen Cleaner
• 2 rolls of Natural Paper Towels
• Seventh Generation tote

The last person to win the Living Home Starter Kit from dkMommy Spot received her set on Mother’s Day weekend.  She was so excited that she emailed me to tell me she had plans to have a Mother’s Day cleaning spree.  Only Seventh Generation could make cleaning so fun!

I’ve always really liked the idea behind the name they chose. I mean, come on…if you don’t care enough about YOURSELF to use safe products, at least you can use safe products for the sake of our children…and their children…and their children…and so on…

I would love to try the toilet bowl cleaner and the shower cleaner. I’ve tried other “organic” (eco friendly) brands with only so-so results, but it is hard to justify continuing to spend the dollars to “try” products that I’m not thrilled with! I hope this is my lucky day :)

I liked the question and response from “Ask Science Man”. He was asked what to do with old detergents that were not eco-friendly, and his first suggestion was to use them up, and then replace them with the better stuff when you run out. I think that that is the wise and sensible thing to do, because I hate waste, even in the name of being “green”.

I love Seventh Generation and use several of their products and they truly have the softest recycled Toilet Paper I have ever found! One thing I learned is that the Toilet Paper is “ideal” for low flow toilets which is what we have! I didn’t know that there was a difference as to what was best for our toilet! I made the change and have gone green with cleaning products. the one area of my cleaning routine where I’ve had trouble going green, however, is with laundry. I have always loved the smell of laundry…especially on summer nights when you go for a walk and someone is drying their clothes and you can smell the fresh smell of laundry…mmmm. I’m also a big fan of fabric softener. I’ve cut down on the amount I use and I use unscented. And, speaking of fabric softener, I was very interested to learn from the Seventh Gen. site that you can put a little fabric softener on a clean sock or washcloth and put it in the dryer with your damp clothes - a reusable dryer sheet equals less waste! And, by doing it that way, you use very little softener. What a great “green” idea!

I learned something very helpful, since I have a dog inside and that is that fleas are repelled by herbs like lavender, rosemary, catmint, eucalyptus, and camphor. Citrus oils will also help.

By visiting the Seventh Generation website, I learned that the expert Scienceman believes that you should use up your current non - 7th gen products, instead of tossing them (as long as they are not potentially and immediately hazardous). It makes me feel better, because even though I am switching our household to a much greener one, I have a hard time tossing my not-so-green products. I have bought more eco-friendly cleaners and such, but am using up my clorox and scrubbing bubbles first.

  534. 534
    Tobster:

I’d really like to try these products. When I looked at the site, one of the more interesting things I learned was that their “science man” suggests using up your less environmentally friendly products rather than disposing of them.

    April:

  536. 536

I liked the graphic showing the number of trees and gallons of petroleum saved–I hadn’t really thought of saving petroleum before, but in our current economy it’s a good idea.

  537. 537
    Valerie C:

I love the forums - I learned some great new things to do with vinegar and baking soda, such as combine them with boiling water as an alternative to Drano; or to scrub tile and grout with baking soda. I love that a CLEANING PRODUCT WEBSITE offers awesome alternatives to cleaning products like this - they are truly sincere when they talk about being green, they aren’t just trying to sell more product. Excuse me, I’m off to go clean my bathroom…
