One of the most popular giveaways of all time here at dkMommy Spot was a Living Home Starter Kit from Seventh Generation. I’m so happy to be able to offer another one on behalf of the people at Seventh Generation. This set, retailed at $44.99 is loaded with their most popular products. Got a health-conscious person on your list this year? Someone who really likes to get in there and oust the germs, or a new mom looking for safe products? Or maybe a new home owner who could use a great clean start? Perhaps you want to win it for yourself. That’s alright - we won’t tell. You deserve a present too. No matter who the lucky winner, they’ll get all these natural full-sized items:
• Ruby Grapefruit & Herb Natural Glass & Surface Cleaner
• Green Mandarin & Leaf Natural All-Purpose Cleaner
• Emerald Cypress & Fir Natural Toilet Bowl Cleaner
• Green Mandarin & Leaf Shower Cleaner
• Emerald Cypress & Fir Tub & Tile Cleaner
• Wild Orange & Cedar Spice Kitchen Cleaner
• 2 rolls of Natural Paper Towels

The last person to win the Living Home Starter Kit from dkMommy Spot received her set on Mother’s Day weekend. She was so excited that she emailed me to tell me she had plans to have a Mother’s Day cleaning spree. Only Seventh Generation could make cleaning so fun!

I’ve always really liked the idea behind the name they chose. I mean, come on…if you don’t care enough about YOURSELF to use safe products, at least you can use safe products for the sake of our children…and their children…and their children…and so on…

I would love to try the toilet bowl cleaner and the shower cleaner. I’ve tried other “organic” (eco friendly) brands with only so-so results, but it is hard to justify continuing to spend the dollars to “try” products that I’m not thrilled with! I hope this is my lucky day

I liked the question and response from “Ask Science Man”. He was asked what to do with old detergents that were not eco-friendly, and his first suggestion was to use them up, and then replace them with the better stuff when you run out. I think that that is the wise and sensible thing to do, because I hate waste, even in the name of being “green”.

I love Seventh Generation and use several of their products and they truly have the softest recycled Toilet Paper I have ever found! One thing I learned is that the Toilet Paper is “ideal” for low flow toilets which is what we have! I didn’t know that there was a difference as to what was best for our toilet! Their cleaners and laundry soap are all wonderful and we used their baby products too!!
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

December 1st, 2008 at 7:31 pm
I made the change and have gone green with cleaning products. the one area of my cleaning routine where I’ve had trouble going green, however, is with laundry. I have always loved the smell of laundry…especially on summer nights when you go for a walk and someone is drying their clothes and you can smell the fresh smell of laundry…mmmm. I’m also a big fan of fabric softener. I’ve cut down on the amount I use and I use unscented. And, speaking of fabric softener, I was very interested to learn from the Seventh Gen. site that you can put a little fabric softener on a clean sock or washcloth and put it in the dryer with your damp clothes - a reusable dryer sheet equals less waste! And, by doing it that way, you use very little softener. What a great “green” idea!

Native Americans thought of the effects of their actions on 7 generations of offspring….we rarely even think about the next as a society (climate change, pollution, overpopulation, factory farming, fossil fuels, debt, overspending, littering, obesity, etc). What a selfish species modern man has become….

I recently bought some of their powdered white flower & bergamot citrus laundry detergent, and have been VERY impressed by how well it cleans — matches Mrs Meyers and Charlie’s Soap for odor & stain removal. My husband is chronically ill, so we have a lot of the same cleaning issues that mothers of babies face.

Switching to laundry detergent made by 7th gen would save a lot of oil and make the earth a better place to be!

I learned something very helpful, since I have a dog inside and that is that fleas are repelled by herbs like lavender, rosemary, catmint, eucalyptus, and camphor. Citrus oils will also help.

This report reflects our belief that to be a good corporate citizen, Seventh Generation should publicly bare, for all to see, both its positive and its negative impacts on society and the environment.

My first introduction to Seventh Generation was their toilet paper, which I found at Trader Joe’s. Then I found a bargain on Seventh Generation Dishwashing Liquid and found I really like it. The fact they make chlorine free diapers is a plus. Would love to win the cleaners since I have chemical sensitivities and several autoimmune disorders.

As someone who has had a lifetime battle with allergic reactions to soap products across the board (dish, laundry, bath,…), with the added “bonus” of a sensitivity to strong chemical odors, I’m happy to be one of Seventh Generation’s MFBs- (Most Frequent Buyers)! Bring on the suds and let’s get cleaning.

December 2nd, 2008 at 3:15 pm
All natural products are hard to find. Some say they are, but they aren’t. Knowing these are really all natural is great. I wouldn’t feel at all bad using them on my grandson.
December 2nd, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I really like the recommendation to use up your non-green cleaning products (most of them, anyway)instead of disposing of them before turning green. I see people simply just throw hin them away and that never seemed green to me.

Peanut Butter Rolo Cookies
Roll of peanut butter cookie dough (or your favorite homemade dough)
rolos
sugar
Get enough dough to completely cover your rolo so you can not see any of the chocolate (a pretty good size ball) Roll the ball in sugar ( make it festive by using red and green sugar) and bake as normal what you get is this peanut butter chocolate carmel cookie that is to die for

By visiting the Seventh Generation website, I learned that the expert Scienceman believes that you should use up your current non - 7th gen products, instead of tossing them (as long as they are not potentially and immediately hazardous). It makes me feel better, because even though I am switching our household to a much greener one, I have a hard time tossing my not-so-green products. I have bought more eco-friendly cleaners and such, but am using up my clorox and scrubbing bubbles first.
Thanks for the giveaway, I would LOVE to win this prize pack!!

Thanks for giving someone a chance to try all these products - it sure does help in this economy!

I’d really like to try these products. When I looked at the site, one of the more interesting things I learned was that their “science man” suggests using up your less environmentally friendly products rather than disposing of them.

Thanks for one more chance to win these great products!

I liked the graphic showing the number of trees and gallons of petroleum saved–I hadn’t really thought of saving petroleum before, but in our current economy it’s a good idea.

I love the forums - I learned some great new things to do with vinegar and baking soda, such as combine them with boiling water as an alternative to Drano; or to scrub tile and grout with baking soda. I love that a CLEANING PRODUCT WEBSITE offers awesome alternatives to cleaning products like this - they are truly sincere when they talk about being green, they aren’t just trying to sell more product. Excuse me, I’m off to go clean my bathroom…

The natural all-purpose cleaner looks like something that would be perfect for me. I am all about using one product in multiple ways instead of buying a myriad of options. This is great!

I’ve posted before about liking their laundry powder. Natural cleaners work so much better than petroleum-based stuff.
