Well, that’s settled. I do believe I found one of my favorite coffee beans – ever. I’m a longtime coffee drinker, and since I’m a bit of a health nut I tend to prefer an organic brew. Throw in a fair trade bean that’s full of aroma and freshly roasted flavor, and I’m drooling for my cup o’ joe. Having had the recent intense pleasure of testing a few varieties of coffee from Strictly Organic, I’m very happy to share them with you, and to include a giveaway as well!
But first let’s discuss the bean, shall we? I love dark, rich coffees. Strictly Organic has some marvelous dark roasts, including Organic Sunnyside Espresso, Organic Italian Roast, and the “I’ll-have-what-she’s-having” Diane Kidman favorite, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. All three beans are dark and oily and very aromatic. I tend to brew espressos and cappuccinos (no yucky syrup for me – just good strong coffee with some steamed milk), and these three varieties worked perfectly to that end, as well as producing an impressive drip coffee. The Sunnyside Espresso is rich and flavorful and quite smooth. Italian Roast has a nice sweetness to it and makes a deliciously bold cup of coffee as well as a fine cappuccino. And the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe? Probably one of the finest coffees I’ve ever had. It’s perfectly suited to my tastes; dark oily beans with a bold and spicy aroma that produces a brew with a wonderfully complex taste.
If you like winetasting, you really must try coffee tasting with the same mindset – the flavors that linger and shift with great coffees like the ones at Strictly Organic. Voted “Best Cup of Coffee” and “Best Coffee House” in Central Oregon’s Gusto Magazine (Summer 2008), it’s garnered much attention in its home state. And let’s not forget their organic roasted hazelnuts! My husband who fancies himself something of a hazelnut connoisseur, declared Strictly Organics’ “Mom’s Nuts” hazelnuts to be the best he’s ever had!
