I think we all know by now how important careful toy selection is.  We’ve seen the news reports, the huge toy recalls, the stories about lead in toys.  It’s upsetting, to say the least!  So knowing where to go for safe, Organic Toys is very important.  Who do you trust if you can’t trust the big guys?  I love finding toys from independent sellers, especially moms who are as conscientious about what they sell as I try to be about what I buy.  Carrin of Down to Earth Toys is such a mom, and I’ve gotten to know her through dkMommy Spot over the past couple of years.  I believe she owns a business I can trust, and the toys we’ve tested here have all been top notch.

Lately we’ve been giving a Three Piece Pull Train a go, and like all their items, it’s quality stuff.  Made of hardwood in the U.S.A., it’s a solid, durable beauty that can easily make it to next generations (unlike its plastic counterparts)!  It’s made for kids 18 months and up, and of course any toddler in love with trains will have a ball with this one.

For the younger set, we have today’s special feature and giveaway item.  This Organic Stacking Toy (pictured above with the cute little boy) is made of beautiful solid maple and walnut.  What makes it organic, you ask?  It’s the natural beeswax and organic jojoba finish, eliminating the fears of “child chews all”.  And of course the tactile experience with warm, solid wood is so much more than what a child would experience with hollow plastic.  Yet another hand-me-down item!  I love the thought of my son’s wooden toys going on to my grandchildren someday!  And what’s even better?  Every time you purchase an Organic Stacker Toy, a tree is planted.  So when your grandchildren are playing with these stackers about 25 years from now, somewhere will be growing the large beautiful tree that was planted when you first purchased the toy for your own child.  Now, that’s pretty cool!

Win a My 1st Camera from Down to Earth Toys!

I love wooden toys!  My son’s favorites are often wooden, natural toys and I’m glad he favors them over the plastic stuff.  There’s something more warm and friendly about a good wooden plaything.  Take, for instance, My 1st Camera sold by Down to Earth Toys.  Made in the USA from reclaimed walnut, maple, cherry, and birch and finished with 100% pure tung oil, this darling toy gives your child their own version of a big grown-up camera.

If you’re looking for toys made in USA, Down to Earth Toys has a wonderful selection; in fact, over 90% of their toys are USA made!  I can’t think of a better gift to give the USA this year than to purchase things made here.  It can be tough to find USA made items these days, but toy shopping can be pretty straightforward if you know where to look.  I’ve been dealing with Down to Earth Toys for a couple of years now, and I give them my thumbs up for being a solid and conscientious company.  Bookmark ‘em for the upcoming holiday season!  You’ll be glad to have them onhand.

Down to Earth Toys is giving away one of their My 1st Cameras ($22.95 retail) to a lucky dkMommy Spot reader!

When you need a cool organic toy that’s as cuddly as it is cute, Down to Earth has the goods! This sweet organic cotton penguin is the perfect snuggly fit for any child’s awaiting arms.  My son has his own organic penguin, and the look on his face when it arrived was priceless.  It made this mama grin from ear to ear!  I feel really good about handing him toys made of organic cotton.  You see, I’m an outgasser.  I know, that sounds like some scary medical condition – but in actuality, it just means that when something new comes into our home, if it smells bad, it goes outside until it calms down.  Many products we all purchase on a day-to-day basis contain things like formaldehyde.  Cloth items are often processed with sprays or chemicals to make them look “fresh” for consumers.  But when you purchase an organic cotton item, it arrives smelling like – well, like cotton!  Clean, good fabric.

So when my son got his darling little penguin, there was no wonders about what it was made of.  Down to Earth Toys is not only one of dkMommy Spot’s sponsors – it’s someone I trust to supply us with good clean, healthy toys made in USA.  (Not everyone gets to advertise here – they have to be eco-friendly and quality driven.) This little penguin is certainly no exception.  He’s all dressed up and waiting to come home; and let’s face it – since penguins are sort of egg shaped, he squeaks through the Easter theme, doesn’t he?  Just look at that darling tye-died hat.  I’d say it’s very Easter-eggish.  And he’s organic.  What better way is there for a penguin to be?  Simply perfect for hugging!
