“The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Vegan Cooking” Giveaway

Click here for Giveaways, Coupon Codes and more!

PhotobucketSo you’ve thought you’d like to try some vegan cooking, but what in heaven’s name do those people use in place of milk and eggs?  Or maybe you are a vegan already, and you want some new recipes to shake things up in the kitchen.  No matter your reason for searching out a vegan cookbook, The Complete Idiot’s Guide series has a book loaded with great vegan recipes that’s sure to get your culinary imagination humming.  It’s called The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Vegan Cooking

My family isn’t vegan; I guess you’d call us weekday vegetarians.  We eat a little meat on the weekends, and if there’s a special event we’ll often eat some then too.  But to be perfectly honest, we all feel much better without the meat.  So I’m always on the lookout for fresh new vegan and vegetarian recipes.  The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Vegan Cooking has been a real pleasure to use.  The recipes cover everything from soups to breads to main courses to a delicious selection of desserts.  I’ve been having a great time picking things out to cook, and my family is enjoying the recipe testing process.  The recipes are easy to follow, and as with all of The Complete Idiot’s Guide series, it’s filled with great tips and information that will only enhance the cooking and eating experience.  Another plus any cook can relate to:  The book stays open while you cook.  (Don’t you hate cookbooks that flop shut while you’re trying to read them?)

So if you’re ready to try baking an Orange Cranberry Loaf or Mushroom and Veggie Fajitas, or if your stomach’s been grumbling for some healthy desserts like Coconut-Almond Macaroons or Hot Fudge Pudding Cake, I’ve got great news!  You can enter to win a copy of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Vegan Cooking right here!

to be honest, we used to eat alot of soy and other products growing up and never really grasped what mom was trying to teach me, and would love a refresher as we try it again in life- at least eat healthier. I personally go meatless but its hard in the full house here but if there were some better dishes that tasted better that might help

I’ve been vegetarian since 2001 (and have never felt healthier) so all my cooking is meatless! I have some favourite cookbooks that I always recommend:
    - for easy, everyday recipes: The Clueless Vegetarian (this one’s idea for those starting out as vegetarians and wondering what to cook)
    - for everything you’d ever need to know: How to Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman. It’s like a Joy of Cooking for vegetarians. Very thorough and great recipes.
    - for impress-the-guests meals: Fresh, and ReFresh cookbooks from Fresh restaurant, my favourite restaurant ever has shared their recipes here.

We’ve been trying because our nephew comes from a vegan household… I have to learn more ideas so he can stay over more often!

  • I’m a vegetarian, but currently I do use lots of cheese and milk in my cooking. I want to make sure my kids will eat what I cook!
I would love to win this book; I feel so healthy when I eat vegan!

Our daughter is fully responsible for opening our eyes to the vegan way of eating. The only time we eat meat is once in a while going out for a steak, but other than that, we have adopted a cruelty-free lifestyle. I hope in the next generation, more and more people will have the awareness raise about slaughterhouses, and unhealthy animal fats. cdziuba@aol.com

  • My husband and I have been vegetarian for 12+ years, but we’re now hoping to cut out some of the processed/packaged meat replacements we’ve been using because of their health and environmental impact. Although we have no great plans to go vegan, we would like to cut down on our consumption of animal products and having a cookbook like this would be a big help.

    Thanks!

  • I am not a vegan or vegetarian however vegan cooking has piqued my interest this past year so this book would be perfect. We usually have meat with every meal but I would like to cut down on that some. Thanks for the chance to enter.

I’m not vegan or vegetarian but I’m interested in books that’ll help me make a smooth transition.

  • I’ve been eating and blogging about near-vegan cooking for almost two years, but even after two years of it, there is still so much to learn! Every time I read a vegan cookbook, I learn something new.

I have good friends who are vegan and they insist on bringing their own food to all group get togethers. I hate the diet coke cupcakes so I made a new attempt at a modified vegan dessert of peanut butter brownies at our latest party. I substituted canola oil for eggs, and they were rock hard and positively disgusting. You could soak the oil off like fried food. I will skip dessert and stick to guacamole and salsa unless I win this book!

My expirience with vegan cooking has been kind of..well.. yeah. I was never that great of a cook to begin with, so when I decided to drop everything animal-made and go raw I kind of limited myself dramatically. I’m learning slowly, but at the moment I can sure make one tasty salad ^-^

I am a vegan, my three kids are vegetarians, and my husband is a carnivore. I cook the meatless fare, and if my husband chooses to add an animal to his plate, he cooks it himself. I love Vegan/Vegetarian food, particularly Indian and Thai fare. If anybody out there is new to veganism, or vegetarianism, but doesn’t want to cook all the time, Amy’s Kitchen makes the best ready-to-eat food. I had heard about The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Vegan Cooking before, and have wanted it since I rifled through it in Borders, and saw how fabulous it is.

  • I have been a vegetarian for several months now and I like better this way, because I hardly have any stomach problems anymore. Meat would always make me sick.

I suppose I’m what is now being called a “flexitarian”: I eat and enjoy many vegetarian foods, but still eat meat. I’m trying to incorporate more vegan and lacto-ovo vegetarian meals into our diet, but my husband doesn’t always appreciate it. Last week I made a wonderful burrito filling with brown rice highly seasoned with taco-type seasonings, and lots of whole pinto beans, and my husband loved it! Now if only I could get my homemade wraps to taste as good… Thanks for the offer of an intriguing-sounding book!

  • Cindi

Hi, I have been a vegetarian since I have had the ability to know what I am eating! My husband and two sons are not. Jon has trouble knowing what to cook for the three of them and me. This book would be so helpful! We have pasta night with alfredo sauce, salad and fruit. Maybe this cookbook has some ideas that all four of use can enjoy together. I keep telling them red meat is not good. He does cook a lot of chicken and pork. Please enter me in your book drawing. Many thanks…..Cindi

  • Thomas Gibson

I have no experience but would like to try.

  • ruth

What a wonderful giveaway. I am extremely interested in perfecting my cooking technique and repertoire. Many dishes that I do cook are vegetarian since I prefer that type of fare. This book would be a delight. Thanks for this practical book.

  • Sue Farrell

I would like to try eating meals without meat but I don’t know where to find any recipes–this book would be a godsend.

  • Honestly, I have no experience with this type of cooking. I would love to learn though. Thanks for the chance!

  • We are sometimes flexitarians- some of our meals are meatless (like couscous) and others are not. One of our favorite meals at a local restaurant is vegetarian, interestingly enough. For both health and budget reasons, I would love to win this cookbook. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  • Roxanne

This is great my daughter just left for college is a vegan and has never cooked for herself before. So darn thin you can read through her.

  • Amanda

I love vegetarian cooking, I even enjoy eating vegan meals from time to time. I’m always on the lookout for new vegetarian recipes.

  • patricia skinner

I tried a recipe once and it turned out really bland. I like to think it was the recipe and not my cooking abilities..so I hope to win this so we can find out!

  • Michele(CA)

I am brand spankin’ new to vegetarian cooking, and this book would be PERFECT for me! I need to learn how to cook better, and what better way than to learn how to cook healthy?

I have been a vegan for a year now. I cook vegan meals every day, and would like to improve my skills.

  • Adrienne Gordon

I make alot of vegetable dishes on the grill, but that’s about it.

We went to a vegeterian pizza dinner once, enjoyed the food and the friendliness of the people we talked to there. Did think about trying some vegeterian/vegan cooking to join the vegan potluck at the women’s club in the neighbourhood but too worried about whether I was doing it right, so haven’t cooked any so far. This book might just be what I need

  • bob

A close friend is vegetarian and I will give this to her. She’s always in the market for a good new recipe.

  • Doreen

I used to be a vegetarian as a late teen and remember having a ton of energy….or was that just being younger….ha..ha. This cooking vegan guide could very well change things for me.

  • Several year back I benefitted from the culinary tutelage of a vegetarian roommate. Since then I have missed having her prowess while still enjoying meatless cuisine . . . even down here in the meat-loving South :-)

  • Debbie D

I REALLY need this book!! My teenage daughter is a vegetarian, and I am clueless about how to cook so the entire family enjoys it. My idea of a meatless meal stops at bean burritos and fish sticks – and although I LOVE fish sticks (yuck, I know!), there are only so many days in a week. Getting some new ideas would help immensely. Also, gotta love a title that has the word “idiot” in it!

after I got my first job, I took a natural foods cooking class at the local university- all vegetarian food – great introduction to lots of legumes. After I bought my house I lived on legumes because they were so much cheaper than meat and I was on an extremely limited budget for several years!

  • Becca

We are vegetarian, we do eat seafood.

My experiences cooking have been absolutely great. I use soy milk, soy “meats,” soy based butter, tons of veggies and herbs, soy cheese, plain and flavored tofus of all dif textures, and I can generally make traditional meat and dairy dishes come out with taste and textures quite like the non-veg versions.
We don’t miss meat and tend to get more creative incorporating lots of fruits and veggies into our meals.

  • I love vegetarian food. I grew up a vegetarian, my parents and sister are still vegetarian. I do eat meat now, but I still make meatless meals. My favorite is stuffed shells. I still find myself buying cheese subs when at a pizzeria.

Ma is a vegan. So when I visit it is vegie all the way. Some foods are wonderful. Some are different. Nut-based meatloaf. Rice milk.

Great way to be become healthy.

  • I make a lot of vegetable stir fries with rice. I am a meat lover, but would love to get some vegan recipes to try for our health and the planet.

  • Susan C

We have a wonderful friend who is vegan, and I have only about 3 meals that I can make when she comes for dinner. Fortunately, she loves all of them, and so do we! The best one, I think is Moroccan Chickpeas with Vegetables, from Homemaker’s magazine. It’s really great, and my friend always says she appreciates all the chopping. (It’s not actually that much.) Now she is fighting breast cancer, and her doctor and nutritionist both say she should not have soy products. Fortunately, she can still have the chickpeas! This book would help both of us.

  • sarah

i’m just starting to get into cooking and vegan cooking has been a real challenge to me because i have to be really careful about what ingredients i use. and it just seems like there are not enough choices when it comes to vegan cooking! this book would be really handy for me.
