Desperate for entertainment at your place?  How about a little Despereaux?  I like to save up a nice stash of good quality children’s movies for special Friday nights.  The Tale of Despereaux certainly caught my attention with its colorful computer animation and a darling little mouse (Matthew Broderick).  Finding a rated G movie was an added bonus!  There don’t seem to be many of those these days. And although this one gets a little intense at times for the very young, overall it’s a fantastic tale that lets kids get a look at the world of castles, knights, and – uh – mousedom.

Parents will enjoy special jokes placed throughout just for them, and the animation is enough to fascinate all ages.  I’m such a sucker for computer animation, and The Tale of Despereaux has quite a showcase. The faces are remarkable, and you’ll love trying to guess which famous actors are the voices behind both mice and men (and starlets too).

  1. Once upon a time my time was my own and someday it will be again. I just need to keep telling myself that during the more trying days with the kids.

  2. Once upon a time…. I lived in a place where I couldn’t have a cat or a dog, so I got a pet mouse. The first day, he ran away. A couple of days later, I got a new mouse. Then the first mouse turned up, and they lived happily ever after!

  3. Once upon a time there was this Mom who was so proud of her daughter who was struggling with her reading. As she arranged for her to be tutored she was given this incredible book called The Tales of Despereaux in which her tutor had stong faith that she would be able to read and finish this book without any problems. But being a Mom, I did not share the same faith and feared that it would only make her daughter struggle more. Well not only did her daughter finish the book in a matter of 3 weeks but she enjoyed it very much so that she asked to go too Barnes and Noble to purchase the newest book that the author wrote. She has since finished that book too and now would love to watch the movie. This movie would be the greatest gift for a girl who climbed high above her mothers expections and proved that she can do whatever it is she wants to do as long as she puts her mind too it. Thank God for tutors and teachers!!

  4. Once upon a time…the Easter Bunny dropped off candy early. Darn him!

Thank you for the opportunity to win!

  8. Once upon a time, there was a girl who loved the thought of scratching her nails across a chalkboard. She laughed and laughed as she tortured the surrounding people, until one day, she scratched over a piece of velvet that had been taped to the board as part of a class decorating project. It turned her insides into a shivering mess, and she suddenly knew how the others felt. She never again scratched the chalkboard, which were eventually replaced with whiteboards, so la-te-da.

  9. Once upon a time grandmother won The Tale of Despereaus DVD for her super granffaughter.

  10. Once upon a time, a pair of parents were trying to enjoy a quite night in the house they built, but they had rambunctious kids. The kids could not keep still, and they could not keep quiet. The pair of parents wished upon a visiting backyard raccoon for something that would move the rambunctiousness into remission. A mouse cartoon! Would the pair of parents have their wishes met?

  11. Once upon a time there was a woman who really wanted to win a copy of the movie despereaux for her grandchildren, so she filled out this form, hoping she would win. Thanks for having the contest!

  12. Once upon a time there was this mother of two who told her kids that milk was the only beverage offered with a Happy Meal.

  13. Once upon a time, there was a mom who was horrifed of mice. She would jump on the chairs and tables when she saw one. Then one day….she met Despereaux and fell in love with the cute little thing. Now adays, they both relax on the sofa to watch his movie. Yes, he’s rich too!

  14. Once upon a time,
a girl went went as far and wide as she could go,
but yet she could not find,
    the tale of despereaux.

    She searched for fifty years
    and twenty seven days,
she finaly found it on a website,
but then found it was no longer played! :(

  15. Once upon a time, there was a first grade teacher who yearned for a special “Fun Friday” treat to reward her first grade students. The reward had to be non-caloric, literature-based, have uplifting values and messages, be enjoyable and fun, and — of course — be G rated! To her delight, this hard-working veteran teacher was also a fan of dkMommy Spot and DK, the delightful entrepreneur and giveaway “fairy godmother”! The hard-working and optimistic teacher first read about the giveaway contest for The Tale of Despereaux DVD, decided to enter it, and made a wish, hoping to win! (Things happen in 3’s in fairy tales, you know!)

  16. YOWZA!! WOWZA!! KABLOOZA!!

Once upon a time…there was a Mommy who was honest enough to admit that she wanted the Tale of Despereaux DVD solely because she wanted to the see the movie! She claimed it was for her daughter, but everyone knew she was just a big kid at heart anyways, so no one ever believed her. Day after day, she said to her husband and friends “I want to see that movie!” but no one ever paid any attention to her, claiming paying bills and doing laundry were more important than watching “silly kids’ movies.”

Finally, one day the Mommy happened upon an online website, and there, found a contest where she could win a copy of the movie. Immediately, she just knew that the Good DK Fairy would reward with the DVD if only she could submit a comment clever enough to capture the Good DK Fairy’s attention. So, she decided to start her comment with a ‘Yowza!,’ but quickly decided it wasn’t enough, so she followed it with a ‘Wowza!’ But still, she wasn’t convinced it was enough Written Word to get the Good DK Fairy’s attention, so throwing all hope into the air, she threw a ‘Kablooza!’ in there. And, now, the poor Mommy must wait…and wait…and wait to see if she won the Tale of Despereaux.

Did it work Good DK Fairy?!?!
