For many of us, the New Year means resolutions – decisions to live our lives healthier, more conscious of what we eat and how we treat our bodies. Perhaps you’ve considered serving your family meals with less or no meat. Or maybe you’re ready to take the plunge into vegetarianism. Either way, one great resource is the Vegetarian Journal.
I’ve been checking out an issue and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Although my family is not completely vegetarian, I have been in the past and quite honestly I see all the benefits and have been contemplating returning to it. With a magazine like Vegetarian Journal, I think that decision would be rather exciting. The magazine is filled with healthy recipes, nutritional information on seasonal fruits and vegetables, scientific updates, and articles on maintaining the lifestyle. What it’s not filled with? Ads. Vegetarian Journal is published by The Vegetarian Resource Group which is a nonprofit organization. So if you’ve ever subscribed to a magazine but found you were only “enriched” by wall-to-wall ads, you know what a treat it is to find a magazine of great articles without the filler! All in all, it’s one magazine I’ll be proud to subscribe to. I think my whole family will feel better for it!
Whether you’re vegetarian or just trying to consume more healthy fruits and vegetables, you’ll find great benefit from Vegetarian Journal. They’d like to give one dkMommy Spot reader a free one-year subscription! Just follow the rules below to enter.

I’ve been trying to help decrease my family’s meat consumption lately , and noticed that their info would help us alot!
I’m also an e-mail subscriber!
My best friend is a vegetarian and I would love to win this for her, she’s great!
I would love and treasure this magazine. My hubby’s cholesterol is over 230 and refuses any diet modifications that I try. (he sneaks fast food in after work, evidence was left in his car) I don’t like to eat meat and neither do the kids. This would help me change our lifestyle tremendously! I’ve pretty much given up….

This would be great to help my motivation to start cooking more . . . I worry that I rely too much on prepared meals [i.e. frozen dinners]

i’d love to win this bc i’ve been a vegetarian for 10 years and am starting to get tired of all my old recipes. i’d love to be inspired each month.
Back for another chance. Am a subscriber
I’d love to receive a subscription to the Vegetarian Journal. We used to subscribe to Vegetarian Times and I miss it (although I did get tired of all the ads and articles being so US-focused). We make a point of trying at least one new recipe a week, and while I often do online searches for new recipes (to complement my huge cookbook collection), it’s fun to get a magazine too, to see the pictures of the meals as well as learn what’s new in the vegetarian world. I’ve been vegetarian since New Year’s 2001 (yay! the only resolution I’ve ever kept) and have absolutely no interest in going back to eating meat. The best thing about being vegetarian is that meals are never boring, and I would never have learned to cook this well if I’d stayed carnivorous.
For anyone else reading the comments and thinking about becoming vegetarian or looking for some great recipe sources, my favourite cookbooks are “How to Cook Everything Vegetarian” by Mark Bittman (this is like the Joy of Cooking for vegetarians), the Vegetarian Times cookbook (and their online resource is great as well, and “The Clueless Vegetarian” by Evelyn Raab (a great starter cookbook).
and… I’m a subscriber too!
hi there, i would love to win the vege journal because i am really getting into making healthy vegetarian dinners for my family.
We are vegetarians and I love to cook. I haven’t been able to find anything very inspiring lately tho. I am ok with them ethnic food that we cook usually but I am very eager to try vegetarian dishes from other cuisines but just don’t have the resource for it. My family including my 7 year old daughter love trying out new food, we also cook together very frequently. This would be a wonderful thing to win for all of us.
