Congrats to winner Alyssa of Pennsylvania! Winner #2, we’re waiting to hear from you. So check that email!
We don’t have a Whole Foods in our neighborhood, but every summer for the past couple of years, we put a cooler in the back of the car and drive 136 miles to the nearest one. Then we make a day of it, eating our lunch there and picking out cool stuff to take back home. (Oh my gosh, I sound like a total health food nerd. Nice way to blow what little cover I had left.)
Now Whole Foods has a blog, Whole Story, and I’ve been having a lot of fun surfing it to get a Whole Foods fix between store visits. They share recipes, videos, information on getting chemicals out of your home, and a plethora of other tips. (I’ve been drooling over their video on how to make Homemade Greek-Style Veggie Burgers.)
In order to celebrate their new blog, Whole Foods has sent me some $25 Gift Cards for you, my healthy green readers. The rules are slightly different for this giveaway, and we’ll be giving out TWO cards! One winner will be chosen from Comments, and the other from the email subscriber list. So read on…
2 Ways to Enter, 2 Gift Cards to Win:
1.) Visit the Whole Story blog and look around a little. Come back here and leave a comment on this post, telling me something you learned on Whole Story. (While you’re over there, leave them a comment or two. It’s not required for the giveaway, but it sure would be a nice thing to do.)
2.) Subscribers are automatically entered into this and all future giveaways. Just click here: Subscribe to dkMommy Spot by Email (Please make sure to verify your Feedburner subscription by responding to the email they send you. If you don’t receive it, check your junk mail. Only verified subscriptions are entered for all the giveaways.)
Do both for two entries. Enter to win before midnight, July 14, 2008. Winners will be drawn randomly.
Note: Whole Foods is also offering a $25 gift card as part of the Gimme Recipes! Contest gift bundle!

I was just reading the most recent post on there about the tomato scare that recently happened…and know it may be effecting red peppers too! eek…it’s scary!
Buying from bulk bins helps save money on organics, and saves on packaging (good for the environment).
Just read about the red pepper scare.
It’s comforting to find Whold Foods keeping updated on which states have been cleared and only purchasing from them. Thank you for your concern for your customers.
This is awful! Thanks for making us aware.
We’re growing more vegetables this summer
When I first saw the Whole Foods Market blog, I was making my first turkey and they had a podcast on how to choose a turkey for Thanksgiving. I bought a fresh turkey from Whole Foods this year and I have to tell you – it was absolutely delicious. Prior to that, my family always bought the popular name brand turkey and it was always dry. The turkey did cost more, but the podcast explained that it takes longer and it takes more money to raise one of their turkeys.
I know one of the readers also gave a recent tip that I love. With the old keys you have in the drawer, make a windchime. I thought that was a great tip for reusing items because I have a tray of old keys and I thinks some friends will get a creative windchime this year. A windchime is a great housewarming gift for some people.

I like their feature called “The Real Deal” which collects money saving tips from readers about their products. I wish we had a Whole Foods closer, as I totally relate to your post about having to travel an hour with the cooler to shop at one. Same goes for Trader Joes. Fortunately, my parents live near a Fresh Fields (Whole Foods) so I can bundle a trip to the store with a visit to see them. Thanks for this great giveaway!

augh, my computer shut down while I was posting this before! I got lost in the blog and found myself in the Real Deal. Customers from everywhere sharing their money saving ideas. I love it! The blog is bookmarked and I have to stay focused now!
I also loved the section where one of the guys went to a show on new upcoming foods and he was talking about new soda flavors. Some of those I will have to track down and some I will leave for the more adventurous spirits!
i learned that raw jalapeno and serano peppers should be avoided if you’re in a high-risk group due to possible contamination
I browsed through the site and will be going back… the red pepper scare–I wonder if they are any closer to figuring what actually caused the outbreak.
BTW… Whole Foods is my FAVORITE grocery store.

I am a huge fan of shopping at a Whole Foods store but we do not have one here where I live but when I visit my family in Orlando I always shop at one. They are the best for organic foods. I learned from the blog how Whole foods really cares about the their customer’s health safety and take it very serious. Then I saw that unbelievable veggie greek burger and my nouth started to water. That is one item I will be cooking for my family this Satureday. Thank-you so much for the awesome contest.
I didn’t realize the new light bulbs were so difficult to dispose of safely!
Great giveaway! Count me in. bebemiqui82(at)yahoo(dot)com

Tomato Concerns Expand to Peppers
Did not know now will have to avoid these also. (sigh)
CFL bulbs use one-fifth of the energy of an incandescent (and they last 7-10 times as long)
Tiny burgers are called Sliders. I have started seeing small burgers on appetizer menus but not called this.
Just read about the danger of these peppers. Thank you for keeping us alerted!

I thought the tomato scare was over, but oh no it has been extended to peppers.
I had not heard about the Serrano Peppers being on the list… most of the Mexican restaurants in our area use fresh serrano peppers to make their chile relleno dishes — scary.
I love the Whole Foods shopping experience, I nevere want to leave their store:) I like that Whole Foods aims for all their company branded products to be made from non-genetically engineered ingredients and processes – the more natural the better!

I learned that replacing our bulbs with the compact fluorescent (CFL) ones ~~ which we have done…is saving us 4/5 of the energy we used to use, and are going to last 7-10 times as long. I was wondering when hubby was replacing them just how much better they would be, but now in combination with some other “savings” idea’s we had – our electric bill is lower (by about 50.00 a month!!)
Thanks for offering this giveaway. I didn’t know that the new type of compact fluorescent bulbs cannot easily be recycled. Glad to hear that Home Depots except recycled bulbs.
Thanks so much for this giveaway and for this info.
red pepper scare is interesting
i like the real deal article. very informative.
I had no idea about those fluorescent bulbs and recycling issues.
this prize will help boost my ‘whole paycheck’
Reading the article about the Maine Root Soda Company I learned that they were the first soda company to use exclusively ethically-certified sugar.

A few days ago I read the post about the Fancy Food Show (which I had the chance to check out a few years back) and almost died when I read about some of the amazing new products Whole Foods found there! What I need to try? The dark cherry in merlot jam from Robert Lambert. Try that on a roasted duck anyone? Mmm.
I learned about Maine Root Soda Company being based right here in Austin…shop local!
I read about the importance of changing my light bulbs!

Whole Foods is my favorite place to browse leisurely. Wonderful and unique items which make my mouth water. The pepper scare took me by surprise. Thanks for this great giveaway.
concerning the tomato salmonella issue, the FDA and CDC are extending their investigation to raw jalapeño peppers and raw serrano peppers
Happy Friday! I love Whole Foods. I am a vegetarian and I enjoy their vegetarian recipes! Please enter me in your fabulous gift certificate drawing. I appreciate it…..Thanks, Cindi
The Maine Root Soda Company uses ethically sourced sugar from Paraguay. Haven’t seen it yet. I’ll keep my eyes open.
Well, I just had to laugh!
While there I checked out the Dry Soda. It seems odd that they sell as all natural but, they have a section in mixology that suggest you can use it with – mandarin vodka, triple sec, tequila, rum. Kinda defeats the purpose of going with a natural soda?
But, you do have a nice site. I found it on Twitter.
Have a super day!

I’ve been a huge fan of Whole Foods since we moved to a city that has several stores. I’m thrilled to find out about their blog. Just by browsing, I learned more about the salmonella issue in tomatoes has expanded to peppers. My husband and I were just talking about it yesterday, so I was happy to learn more information about it.
Love the fact that they give out loans to small producers. Good info.
I love whole foods they have 2 here in austin, my mom took me to the cafe there when i was in high school alot and i love the spaghetti and meatballs, ceaser salad and spinach artichoke dip. and i love the chocolate croissants from the bakery. My daughter and I would also go there after baby yoga sometimes. I learned that Maine Root Soda is part of whole foods Whole Trade Guarantee program, so in addition to the great work that they do, they donate 1% of sales on maine roots sodas products to do more great work through whole foods Whole Planet Foundation. Great giveaway, thanks!
First of all, I am happy to report that here is a store 32 miles away form me and if you feel it’s worth the distance you go, I am sure 32 is nothing. I was quite impressed! I read a couple posts and learned scary news; the salmonella investigation has broadened to include jalapeno peppers now. If I can’t grow it in my own garden, I want to buy from stores like this. It’s getting kinda scary to shop in my local grocery store!
What a kind and generous company they seem to be; I read about them giving small business loans and they really seem to take great pride in being able to watch the recipient grow.
Thanks for the review and the giveaway. Naturally, I’d love to win but if I don’t , I may just have to travel those 32 miles anyway just to check it out!

I didn’t realize Whole Foods had so many stores under development. I’m so excited to see that a Whole Foods is coming to Folsom, CA. I recently moved here from a non-Whole Foods area.
I enjoyed hearing about your 136-mile drives to Whole Foods. When I recently lived in Minden, NV, my trips “home” to Monterey included planning for Whole Foods shopping. I packed an ice pack and grocery bags and took my Whole Foods goods 300 miles home.
I learned there are concerns about jalepenos which I didn’t know before. Although I will keep eating them while staying updated. Also, i am curious to try Laughing Giraffe gluten free granola when I go to California next month since they don’t carry it here yet.
I love Whole Foods and we have one fairly close by. One thing I learned from their website is that they have TONS of recipes. I love new recipes and I had no idea how many I would fine there! Thanks!
Tomato Concerns Expand to Peppers. boy if ever there was a reason to have my own garden this is it. I love whole foods because it stocks organic and vegan foods.
I liked the article about the fancy food show and the unusual soda flavors like lemongrass, lavender and rhubarb. I’ve bookmarked their page; I love Whole Foods, and now I’m adicted to their website as well as their stores!
I just learned that CFL light bulbs use 1/5 the energy of regular bulbs, AND they can be recycled at Home Depot (how easy is that?). I’m inspired to start replacing light bulbs now!
I love root beer and the Maine root bear sounds delish, and much healthier than it’s predecessors!
I didn’t know that used compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs can be disposed of at IKEA and soon can be disposed of at Home Depot. Also if one breaks, sweep up the debris instead of vacuuming it. Please enter me in the giveaway.
