Congrats to winner Alyssa of Pennsylvania! Winner #2, we’re waiting to hear from you. So check that email!
We don’t have a Whole Foods in our neighborhood, but every summer for the past couple of years, we put a cooler in the back of the car and drive 136 miles to the nearest one. Then we make a day of it, eating our lunch there and picking out cool stuff to take back home. (Oh my gosh, I sound like a total health food nerd. Nice way to blow what little cover I had left.)
Now Whole Foods has a blog, Whole Story, and I’ve been having a lot of fun surfing it to get a Whole Foods fix between store visits. They share recipes, videos, information on getting chemicals out of your home, and a plethora of other tips. (I’ve been drooling over their video on how to make Homemade Greek-Style Veggie Burgers.)
In order to celebrate their new blog, Whole Foods has sent me some $25 Gift Cards for you, my healthy green readers. The rules are slightly different for this giveaway, and we’ll be giving out TWO cards! One winner will be chosen from Comments, and the other from the email subscriber list. So read on…
2 Ways to Enter, 2 Gift Cards to Win:
1.) Visit the Whole Story blog and look around a little. Come back here and leave a comment on this post, telling me something you learned on Whole Story. (While you’re over there, leave them a comment or two. It’s not required for the giveaway, but it sure would be a nice thing to do.)
2.) Subscribers are automatically entered into this and all future giveaways. Just click here: Subscribe to dkMommy Spot by Email (Please make sure to verify your Feedburner subscription by responding to the email they send you. If you don’t receive it, check your junk mail. Only verified subscriptions are entered for all the giveaways.)
Do both for two entries. Enter to win before midnight, July 14, 2008. Winners will be drawn randomly.
Note: Whole Foods is also offering a $25 gift card as part of the Gimme Recipes! Contest gift bundle!

‘The Real Deal’ page is awesome – had never thought about making vegetable broth!
The veggie broth is awesome. I am def investing in an iron cast skillet.
I read about the bulbs with mercury. Whole Foods stated that you should just sweep it up. This is not true. You need unfortunelty to hire a professional environmental cleanup crew. (Which is very expensive but if you have children how can you not)
I just learned about the peppers! Scary
I was glad to learn that Home Depot will accept CFL bulbs for recycling. It’s nice to know that I can easily dispose of them while doing other shopping.
I ‘m glad we changed our bulbs to save energy, I didn’t know they lasted that much longer. great news!
I learned that maine root soda, which ive had a couple times, is ethically conscious and completely fertilizer free. hooray!
Jalapeno Peppers may be in trouble from salmonella as well as tomato’s!!!!

I learned that Ikea and Home Depot both accept used CFLs. Didn’t expect to learn that from Whole Foods, so it’s nice that they’ll promote other stores that share their green vision.
I learned about hot peppers. Thankfully I planted some in my garden so shouldn’t have to worry about that here.
Maine Root Soda Company was the first soda company to use exclusively ethically-certified sugar.
I didn’t know Whole Foods did bulk spices – I’ve never even looked for that! I learned that from the “Real Deal” reader tips on their site. Thanks!
I didn’t know that the CFL light bulbs contained mercury. I found out how to dispose of them properly and what to do if one of them brakes.
Wow! First of all, I learned that Whole Foods has an official blog! I shop there all the time and did not realize this fact. Second, I learned you can recycle used CFL bulbs at IKEA and coming soon at Home Depot. That is great news.
I checked out the Be Good To Your Whole Body brochure and found some natural rememdies for poison ivy.
I had not idea about the red pepper scare – good to know!

Those light bulbs contain mercury?!?
I learned organic macaroons can taste good. I will have to try some of those.
I’ve learned a great deal about compact flourescent lightbulbs. Volumes of information about natural cleaning products and even more about organic foods. Guess you could say that the dkMommy Spot is the hot spot to visit these days.
I READ ABOU THE SAVINGS RECOMMENDATIONS AND IT APPLIED TO SOME THINGS I COULD DO.
I learned that jalapeno peppers are also thought to be infected with salmonella.
The article about fluorescent bulbs and recycling was interesting. I hope something can be figured out.
C Durans last blog post..Vegetarian Times Magazine – Onlly $2.98 for a Full Year!
I learned that lemongrass is used in Dry Soda Co.’s products!
Well, I clicked over just to comply with the terms of the contest, and I liked it so much I subscribed. The top article, about healthy sunscreens, was remarkably timely, as we are running out of our conventional sunscreens (for the adults in the house… already have safe stuff for the toddler) and didn’t know what to buy. Now we have some options. Plus I like the weekly tips from other shoppers on how to save money.
Jen (yup, another one)s last blog post..The Madness (or, The Nesting Begins)
I learned that “the FDA and CDC are extending their investigation to raw jalapeño peppers and raw serrano peppers”. I do not watch or read the news often, so wasn’t aware of this. Thanks for the giveaway!
I found out about Laughing Giraffe Organics – from Phoenix, Arizona – and that they make raw, vegan, organic, gluten-free granola and macaroons. I am currently trying to figure out if I’m allergic to gluten, so if I am, I will be buying tons of Laughing Giraffe stuff.
I learned that World Foods is now the world’s leading retailer of natural and organic foods. I think they have a great selection of products.
I learned that World Foods is trying to keep chemicals out of our food supply.
I learned that there is a Real Deal page with tips on how to save at Whole Foods Market.
I love their Real Deal page! I love Whole Foods but it can be a bit pricey when I get out of there. *blush*
It’s nice to find a cheaper way to shop there.
Suzanne Bs last blog post..Pinata Pinafore GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!
I think it’s great that they have posts from actual customers and videos with their suggested food recipes.
